mmmm, good food

Testing out Julie's (Almost Perfect) Savoury Muffins, 1 year old cheddar, strawberries and Chocolate Date Truffles.

Last week Julie shared her recipe for Chocolate Date Truffles?áwith all of us. ?áShe is also working at perfecting a savoury muffin recipe. ?áI tried both of these recipes over the weekend and they were amazing!!! ?áThe beauty of it all is that I was able to make both recipes, from start to finish, in under an hour. ?áIn the very near future, I hope that we can share her recipe for savoury muffins too. ?áThanks again, Julie!

These recipe ideas are great. I tried your ice cream recipe but was forced to modify it lacking cocoa and used matcha tea instead. Not bad! However, the matcha can taste a bit bitter if not balanced right and I think probably needed a bit more sugar. I also couldn’t find straight-edged jars, unfortunately. I was wondering why they are necessary (I found with round jars, the ice cream pulls away from the sides of the container). Anyway, it was a great recipe….but lacking the modification genius for which I probabl need a consultant……

  2. Hello Deborah,
Wow, you have mentioned some daring and fun recipe modifications! I would love to create some sort of matcha tea ice cream! It’s a great idea and it has got me thinking! Hmmmm.
The reason that I mentioned the straight-edged jars was simply so that you put the ice cream in something that is easy to dip into once it is frozen. Any type of jar would work.
It is always great to hear from you! Thanks for your continued insight! Love it!

The matcha ‘innovation’ was quite by accident (I ran out of cocoa and had some matcha tea past the expiry date–which means it is still fine to consume but not as fresh as tea). I really think the recipe Fleurbain posted which I followed would be good for matcha ice cream (coconut, lightly sweet, with the lightly bitter taste of matcha creates interesting balance and LOVELY GREEN colour!). But I think my proportions will need some work…:) I have exactly two jars left which I will give to Fleurbain for a taste test.

    1. Oooo, that would be great! 🙂
