December 6th.

December 6, 1989. Fourteen bright young women were singled out and killed in Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique.?áI, personally, will never forget that day. Today I look out at Montreal’s snow, and think about?áour loss of those women and?áthe violence that persists against women all over the world. We have to remain strong and support each other, and let the names of these fourteen women live on.

?áGenevi?¿ve?áBergeron, aged 21.?áH?®l?¿ne?áColgan, 23; ?áNathalie Croteau, 23; ?áBarbara Daigneault, 22; ?áAnne-Marie Edward, 21;?á Maud Haviernick, 29; ?áBarbara Maria Klucznik, 31; ?áMaryse?áLeclair, 23; ?áAnnie St-Arneault, 23; ?áMich?¿le?áRichard, 21;?á Maryse?áLagani?¿re, 25; ?áAnne-Marie Lemay, 22; Sonia Pelletier, 28; and Annie Turcotte, 21.

December 6th… lighting a candle, shedding some tears, remembering. Vigilance. Violence is not acceptable.

  1. Thanks so much for posting this, and for posting the 14 women’s names.

We felt that we had to say something about it, we are all affected by what had happened. It’s painful but important to reflect, mark the day, to honour those women.
